Driving in Town? Know the Limit

The North East Safety Camera Partnership (NESCAMP) is appealing to drivers to remember the legal speed limits and not to take a chance when it comes to driver safety. Drivers are urged to be vigilant when driving in built up areas as the speed limit may change as they drive through different areas.
When it comes to driving in built up areas drivers should be aware that the speed limit is 30mph unless there is signage that states otherwise. Therefore in some areas the limit may be less than 30mph and some areas it could be higher. Drivers are reminded of section 124 of the Official Highway Code (revised 2007) which states that street lights usually mean there is a 30mph speed limit unless there are signs showing a different limit (Class C and unclassified roads).
The following list of roads are some of those within Aberdeen City that are classed as dual carriageways with a 30mph limit. Please note that this list is not exhaustive. Drivers are encouraged to be vigilant when driving and pay close attention to road signs.
- North Esplanade West
- Market Street (Trinity Quay to Victoria Bridge)
- Virginia Street
- Commerce Street
- East North Street
- West North Street
- Beach Boulevard
- Causewayend
- Ellon Road (from Bridge of Don to North Donside Road
- Wellington Road (from QE2 Bridge to its junction near Greenwell Rd)
- Great Northern Rd (from Printfield Walk to near Deer Rd)
- Auchmill Rd (through Bucksburn )
Julie Smith, Partnership Manager, said “It is vitally important that drivers monitor their speed and pay close attention to road signs. All drivers have a legal responsibility to know the speed limits.”
NESCAMP is a partnership comprising of Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeenshire Council, The Moray Council, Grampian Police and Transport Scotland.
